Reliefs

A series of low reliefs arose from a period of prolific drawing.

“The brightest of all images is the human body; we cannot look at it for long, it dazzles us.  This is because, as the Greeks knew, it contains a God, Eros.”

PJ Kavanagh. London exhibition catalogue foreword in 1972

‘Although based on drawings of the life of lovers, the problem was to translate these into sculpture.  Reliefs provided the solution; the material itself was an equivalent for the sensuality, and the focus was taken off the subject matter which was veiled in the undulations of the screen like relief’..
