Meat porters

The powerful ‘Meat Porters’ installed in Harlow Market Square was the result of drawings, reliefs and small sculptures inspired by visits to Smithfield Meat Market. It was among the first group of public sculptures to be ‘Listed’ by English heritage.

“Brown infuses his everyday image of working man with dignity and pathos, raising it above simple rhetoric and investing it with spiritual significance” Ruth Walton in 1988
